FDA Warns Consumers Against Buying Fake Paracetamol Tablets
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public against buying and consuming fake paracetamol tablets circulating in local markets.
The United Laboratories In, the marketing authorization holder for paracetamol revealed the circulation of the fake 500 milligrams Biogesic tablets nationwide, according to FDA.
The agency warned the public to be more careful in purchasing medicines because fake drug product could be put the lives of its consumers at stake.
“All healthcare professionals and the general public are hereby warned as to the availability of this counterfeit drug product in the market, which poses potential danger or injury to consumers,” FDA said quoted by Inquirer.
The FDA has also elaborated the difference between the original product from the fake one through checking its printed markings, foil material, foil packaging pattern, and tablet color.
FDA said that the importations and sale of fake medicines is a violation of Republic Act No. 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009, as well as Republic Act No. 8203, or the Special Law on Counterfeit Drugs.
