Free Tuition & Miscellaneous Fee In SUC’s To Take Effect Starting June 2018

Free tuition and miscellaneous fee in state universities and colleges (SUC’s) providing a free college education for students will take effect on June 2018.

Starting June 2018, the tuition and miscellaneous fees in public college and universities will be free to provide a free college education for the students.

The free college education announcement came after the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) launch the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of executing the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017.

Miscellaneous Fee

The newly approved bill orders the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) as well as CHEd-recognized Local Universities and Colleges (LUC) to exempt the college students from paying tuition and miscellaneous fees.

Aside from SUC and LUC, the tuition fee for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in public training institutions will be also free.

The Philippine government allocates about P40 billion fund for a free college education.

Miscellaneous Fee

For qualifications, the students must pass the admission test given by SUC and LUC and must not have any college degree or not an overstaying student.

IRR also states that they will intensify the admission of “disadvantaged students” including Person with Disabilities (PWDs) and other indigenous groups.

The government also allocates fund for less-fortunate students providing a yearly subsidy of P40, 000 for public school students and P60, 000 for private school students.
