DILG Says Over 800 Establishments In Boracay Commit Violations

More than 800 establishments in Boracay Island allegedly committed different violations, according to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

On Friday (March 02, 2018), DILG Officer-in-Charge Eduardo Año said that more than 800 establishments in the country’s top tourist spot have allegedly violated certain rules and regulations since 2001.

Año said that the establishments whose name yet to be revealed had no permit while some of them failed to comply the environmental requirements.

The DILG executive had ordered the owner of the establishments to dismantle the booth or else they will face demolition.

Each tourist visiting the Philippines’ top tourist spot was allegedly generating about two and a half kilograms of waste per day.

Last month, President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Environment Department to clear the area from waste within six months or he would order the closure of the island.
