What does the Palace want for the suspects of the death of OFW Joanna Demafelis?

JOANNA DEMAFELIS – Presidential spokesman Harry Roque revealed what the Malacañang wants for the suspect of the death of Joanna Demafelis.

The body of the overseas Filipino worker that was found dead in a freezer inside an apartment in Kuwait has already been brought home. The body was identified as the remains of Joanna Demafelis, a native of Sara, Iloilo based on a report.

Joanna went abroad to work and be able to provide for her family’s needs. According to her family, she was still able to communicate with them during her first months abroad.

A friend of Joanna who is also working in Kuwait claimed that the Pinay domestic helper had complained to her before that her employers are hurting her and her salary is delayed.

The government and several concerned agencies are reaching out to Joanna Demafelis’ bereaved family and extend their assistance to them. Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also came to Iloilo and visited the family of the late Pinay helper.

The suspects in the death of the OFW are her employers – a Lebanese man and a Syrian woman. Based on a recent report in Philstar, one of the suspects has already been arrested according to the Department of Foreign Affairs citing Kuwaiti officials.

The Lebanese man, identified as Nader Essam Assaf, was arrested in Lebanon. His wife, Mona, has not yet been found.

Based on the report, following the statement about the arrest of one of the suspects of Joanna Demafelis’ death, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told the media that the Palace is thankful but it is hoping that “they will be prosecuted and punished soonest”.

The Presidential spokesperson expressed that Pres. Duterte has already tasked the National Bureau of Investigation to summon the recruitment agency that processed Joanna Demafelis’ papers to Kuwait.
