DENR Worried Over Palawan, Environment Sec Roy Cimatu Cites Condition

DENR on the Move to Save Palawan from Destruction

DENR – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is worried over the condition of the beautiful haven Palawan now.

The Philippines is a home to lots of beautiful spots including the Boracay Island in the province of Aklan and the Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa City.

However, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has recently threatened to close Boracay in six months if the garbage problems in the area won’t be solved. Based on a report, he called the place as ‘cesspool’. Undeniably, Boracay now is widely visited by people and lots of structures have been built around it.

According to the report, the 72-year-old President has personally witnessed the garbage in Boracay when he visited it before. The DENR has already issued notices of violation to some establishments in the island.

Based on a recent report in Inquirer, the DENR is also worried over Palawan now. This place is undeniably one of the most beautiful spots in the country. The Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa was even one of those that were tagged as the wonders of the world.

Sadly, according to DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, the ceilings of the caves now have turned dark and it is possibly caused by the people who are passing through it.

Speaking at the 2nd Philippine Environment Summit in Cebu, Cimatu stated that carbon causes the darkening of the ceilings of the caves. He stressed that carbon comes from the exhalation of people.

Cimatu expressed that the department could not afford another problem like what it is facing with regards to Boracay Island.

Based on the report, in an interview with the source on Tuesday, DENR Mimaropa director Natividad Bernardino expressed that the DENR Secretary had ordered her office for a “clean up” in El Nido.

According to her, they would start issuing NOVs to establishments that constructed structures beyond the ‘easement zone’ next week.
