UP Student Chad Patrick Osorio Wins ‘Brilliance Prize’ At UN International Essay Competition

Chad Patrick Osorio, a UP law student has won the ‘Brilliance Prize’ at the 33rd Eisaku Sato essay competition held by the United States in Tokyo, Japan.

The graduating law student from the University of the Philippines and a development advocate received a ¥200,000 or P89, 000 cash award for being the first Filipino winner in the competition.

The theme of the competition focused on the world’s rapid demographic changes and the possible solutions of United Nations (UN) and other organizations could give.

Essay Competition

 

Osorio’s essay discussed the increase of populist governments, widening economic inequalities and the problem of international refugees.

The winning piece of the UP law student was entitled “Transforming Momentum into Propulsion: Harnessing the Demographic Tsunami”

The maximization of information and communication technology (ICTs) utilization in implementing development and changes on international policy mindset was the solution offered by Osorio.

Essay Competition

The UP student said that he drew his ideas from his previous professional experiences from his several volunteer engagements.

Osorio is also a national essayist awardee of the National Historical Institute. He also served as speaker in conference tackling issues in the fields of international law and development of foreign countries.
