7.6-Magnitude earthquake hits Central America.
CENTRAL AMERICA – An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 has hit the near remote Caribbean Islands belonging to Honduras on Tuesday.
According to a report from the ABS-CBN News, a 7.6-magnitude quake struck near remote Caribbean Islands belonging to Honduras on Tuesday with a tsunami warning for the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
It has hit the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa roughly 323 miles (519 km) to the east, but no immediate damage was reported.
As per the US Geological Survey, the quake has been initially reported as a magnitude 7.8 centered 125 miles (202 km)northeast of Barra Patuca in Honduras and 191 miles (307 km)southwest of George Town in the Cayman Islands.
A tsunami advisory from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has been announced in effect for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands after the earthquake and indicated of possible waves up to 1 meter (3 feet) above tide level.
The shaking was at 6.2 miles (10 km).
According to Mexico’s civil protection director, it was lightly felt in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo north of Honduras.
