Quiapo Church Bishop Cites Possible Explosion, Earthquake Might Stop Traslacion 2018

The Quiapo Church parochial vicar Fr. Douglas Badong said that a possible explosion or earthquake might stop the Black Nazarene Traslacion 2018.

The Traslacion 2018 or popularly known as the Feast of the Black Nazarene is already a part of the Filipino culture and tradition, which is one of the most anticipated religious activity of the year.

Over 19 million Filipino devotees were attending and participating in the annual event to express their devotion and faith.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene was being celebrated every January 9 of the year, which prompted the government officials in Metro Manila and other affected areas to suspend the cl(–foul word(s) removed–) and works in government offices.

Recently, officials said that a threat to the safety and security of the Filipino devotees might force the Church to stop the Black Nazarene procession.

“In case of a worse case scenario, the Quiapo Church has a Plan A and Plan B that would be implemented with the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP). We will determine what action should be taken. We are prepared,” Fr. Douglas Badong said quoted by Philstar.

Badong also cited an earthquake or explosion depending on the degree of damage and situation might force them to stop the Traslacion 2018.

However, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Oscar Albayalde said that they were closely monitoring the area and assured that there is no any terrorist threat.

The representative of Quiapo Church explained that the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene has never been canceled due to security threats.

Quiapo Church rector Monsignor Hernando Coronel was hoping for the best but advised the multitudes to prepare for a possible worst-case scenario.

Coronel said that on Tuesday (Jan 9), about 7,000 uniformed personnel from the MPD, AFP, the NCRPO, and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) together with over 2, 000 volunteers would be deployed in the area to ensure the safety of the attendees.
