León Gallery’s The Kingly Treasures Auctions 2017 Sold Rizal Letters For P10-M, Set New Record For Zobel, Ocampo, Manansala

The four letters of the Filipino hero Jose P. Rizal was sold for over P10 million, while Zobel, Ocampo, and Manansala set a new record.

León Gallery’s The Kingly Treasures Auctions 2017 sets a new record for the letter of Jose Rizal and also for several artworks from various national artists.

Rizal’s four letters were sold for more than P10 million, which was personally written by the Filipino hero to his older sister Maria Mercado Cruz. Three of the letters was written by Rizal during his exile in Dapitan.

Fernando Zóbel’s 1961 oil-on-canvas “Acinipo #390,” was sold for a roughly P23.36 million, which shows the improvisation of lines and movements of the artist.

H.R Ocampo’s 1969 oil-on-canvas “Bon Vivant” was sold for P19.86 million featuring its geometric shapes on different shades of red. It was popularly known as the famous curtain of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Vicente Manansala’s 1980 oil-on-canvas “Market Scene” was sold for P32.70 million, while his another artwork entitled “The Candle-Sellers” fetched P18.69 million.
