Eldon Cruz, Aquino’s Brother-in-law Linked To Alleged Multi-Billion Peso Scam

Eldon Cruz, the brother-in-law of the former President Benigno Aquino III was allegedly linked to a multi-billion peso scam.

On Monday (November 27, 2017), a witness on the alleged multi-billion peso scam amounting P8.7 billion revealed that Eldon Cruz, Aquino’s brother in law by his sister Ballsy was involved on the illegal activity.

During the press briefing with Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, a certain Roberto Catapang Jr. was claiming that he was a member of the syndicate that facilitated the documentation of private properties, which leads to state-funded road projects.

Catapang explained that the documentation for the properties, which was manufactured by him and other group members was done through working with corrupt government employees.

However, the witness admitted that he never met Eldon Cruz in facilitating the multimillion-peso transaction in DPWH and the Department of Budget and Management.

He also explained that Cruz was using his connection in Aquino administration to release funds for alleged fake road projects.

Catapang also seeks guidance from the justice secretary before answering the questions from the media. Aguirre asked him to show the documents and tell them what he knew about Cruz.

“Apparently, they were using his name always, not just a few times. Sorry, Sir. It’s Sir Eldon Cruz,” said by Catapang quoted by Inquirer.

The witness showed a letter dated Jan 12, 2011, which allegedly sent by Cruz to the Public Works Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson seeking the release of payment from road right-of-way claims.

The letter does not contain the full name of Cruz, but only his signature. Catapang also revealed that the letter he received from a friend was not a certified true copy.
