MISS EARTH 2017: PH Bet Karen Ibasco Leads Competition, Receives Special Awards

The Philippines’ bet for the Miss Earth 2017 is leading the competition.

MISS EARTH 2017 – The Philippines’ bet for this year’s Miss Earth is leading the competition and has received several special awards.

Miss Earth Philippines 2017 Karen Ibasco has already won five medals all throughout the competition.

According to a report from The Philippine Star, the country’s bet has snatched the gold medal for her Maria Clara-inspired national costume which was created and designed by Louis Pangilinan.

Here is the list of winners for the Asia Pacific National Costume winners:

Gold: Miss Philippines
Silver: Miss Thailand
Bronze: Miss Japan

Due to her victory at the Asia Pacific National Costume category, she is now leading the said competition of beauty and brains with a total of five medals –  three golds and two silvers.

On the second spot was Miss Vietnam who bagged three gold and two bronze medals.

Aside from being the best in the category for the national costume, Karen also got gold medals for Darling of the Press and Group 2 Swimsuit Competition, silver medals for Resorts Wear Competition and Long Gown Competition.

According to the source, Karen is 26 years old and is from Manila.

She is a medical physicist who concluded a bachelor and a master’s degree with Latin honors, specifically Cum Laude, taking up Applied Physics major in Medical Physics from the University of Santo Tomas.

Karen will be competing against 85 other contestants for the crown which will be passed on by Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espin of Ecuador on the finals night.

The finals will be on November 4 held at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ever since the pageant has started in 2001, the country has already bagged the title for three times.

The winnings at such are as follows: 2008 (Karla Henry), 2014 (Jamie Herrell) and 2015 (Angelia Ong).
