‘Darna’ Director Emmanuel Borlaza Dies at 81 Due to Heart Attack

Darna director Emmanuel Borlaza died earlier at the age of 81 due to a heart attack.

The veteran director was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival at exactly 4 a.m. on October 12, 2017.

Emmanuel Borlaza, also known as Maning is popular in directing classic films including “Bituing Walang Ningning”, “Dyesebel”, “Lipad, Darna! Lipad!” and to name a few.

Maning Borlaza has collaborated with Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, now Batangas representative, in not less than 24 times in films he directed.

Borlaza has served as the chairman of Directors Guild of the Philippines, Inc. (DGIP) and vice chair for the Movies and Television Review Classification Board (MTRCB).

Meanwhile, renowned personalities paid tribute to the passing of the veteran director and writer.

His fellow director Jose Javier Reyes went to the micro-blogging site, Twitter wherein he express his gratitude to the notable filmmaker.

Leah Salonga also gave a message to Borlaza.

While Rolando Tolentino, an MTRCB board member and University of the Philippines professor, also paid tribute to his colleague.

The remains of Borlaza lies at the Loyola Memorial Chapel in Sucat, Parañaque.

According to a report published by Inquirer.net, he is set to turn 82 this coming November 5.
