Military Says More Hostages Left In Terrorist’s Hands In Marawi Than Earlier Count

The military said that there are more numbers of hostages handled by the extremists were left in the beleaguered city of Marawi than earlier count.

The bloody siege in Marawi City between the Maute Terror Group and the government forces have started last May 23, 2017, which severely affects its residents. It also prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in Mindanao.

The ongoing conflict in the besieged city has already taken thousands of lives most of them are terrorists, militaries, and civilians. Unfortunately, the authorities could not yet accomplish their mission since the terrorist’s group were still handling hostages.

On Saturday (October 07, 2017), Col. Romeo Brawner, deputy commander of Joint Task Group Ranao revealed that the extremists’ group has 40 to 60 hostages according to the rescued captives after estimating there are only about 20 hostages.

Brawner said that there are 38 to 48 members of the Maute group was left on their hideout. He also explained that they were not able to see all the captives as they were scattered in different buildings, Mosques, and basements.

“There are estimated to between 40 to 60 hostages. The Maute is [estimated to number around] 38 to 48. Ito po ang revelation sa atin ng mga hostages natin (This is what the hostages revealed),” said by Brawner quoted by ABS-CBN.

The commander revealed that some of the hostages were given firearms and forced to fight the government troops as the extremists’ remains in control of about 200 buildings in the battlefield including Mosques.

The police chief said that the soldiers were pushed harder to accomplish their mission to end the crisis in Marawi so that the residents could start again with their life.
