Pinoy Taxi Driver Hailed As ‘Hero’ For Helping The Mass Shooting Victims In Las Vegas
A Pinoy taxi driver named Wenifredo “Winnie” Maquindang from Loboc town in Bohol was hailed as a hero for helping the shooting victims in Las Vegas.
On Sunday (October 01, 2017), the residents of Las Vegas were covered with fear and panic during a deadly mass shooting outside the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino, which took the lives of at least by 59 people and injured over 500 people.
The shooting incident happened during a country music concert when the 64-year-old Stephen Paddock launched an open fire inside the 32nd floor of the hotel but took his own life upon the arrival of the police authorities.
During the deadly mass shooting, a Boholano taxi driver identified as Wenifredo “Winnie” Maquindang helped the wounded victims by bringing them to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention.
Maguindang admitted that it was too risky to transport the casualties, but he was not able to come to other victims since the authorities put a blockade at the crime scene.
The taxi driver also said that some taxi drivers ran for their lives after hearing the gun fires. At first, Winnie thought that it was fireworks, but eventually, realize that it was gunshots coming from the hotel down to the concert crowd. After a few moments, people began to approach his taxi for a ride.
The resident of Las Vegas, Nevada was calling the driver a hero for showing an act of heroism in the midst of the chaos, but he explained that he only just want to help the people.
The Filipino cabbie was a new driver of a company he did not name. The latter said that he was already a taxi driver for 45 years, while his family lives in California.
