Drinking Ban In Public Places Ordered By President Duterte
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered a drinking ban in public places to promote peace and order in the streets and avoid public disturbance.
On Monday evening (September 18, 2017), President Duterte issued an order of a nationwide drinking ban in public area during the opening of the 6th Mandatory Continuing Legal Education-Accredited National Convention of Public Attorneys at the Manila Hotel.
The president ordered the government and police officials to arrest anyone who will be caught drinking in the streets as drunkard become boisterous resulting to fistfights, which causes fear and disturbance in public.
“Kaya sabi ko ‘pag mag-inuman in public place, arestuhin mo. Ang mga tao kasi takot eh. Takot na magdaan… Ang mga biktima nito, hindi ito iyong mga elitistang, p*****ina mga ito,” said by Duterte quoted by Philstar.
Previously, Duterte has already imposed the drinking ban on public areas in Davao City when he was still the mayor, which becomes a successful strategy to keep the peace and order.
However, Mr. Duterte also said that those people who will be arrested for drinking in the streets and alleys can receive help from the Public Attorney’s Office for their release on the next day.
