Filipino Composer Noel Cabangon Express Sentiments Over Extrajudicial Killings
The Filipino singer/songwriter Noel Cabangon has expressed his sentiment over the unceasing Extrajudicial killings in the country.
President Duterte’s war on drugs becomes one of the most controversial issues and topics not only in the Philippines but also in different countries all around the world amid Extrajudicial Killings (EJK), which took thousands of lives.
The increasing death rates in the country raises the concern of human rights groups, European Union, US President Barack Obama, and other organization who criticized President Duterte for his bloody crackdown on illegal drugs.
Recently, the popular singer/songwriter Noel Cabangon has expressed his sentiments regarding the increasing death tolls caused by vigilante killings, which was linked to the anti-illegal drug campaign of Duterte administration.
The hit song “Tatsulok” composed by Noel Cabangon popularized by the Pinoy rock band Bamboo was very relevant to the current events happening in the country particularly with the EJK incidents.
The lyrics of the song says: ““Totoy makinig ka, ‘wag kang magpa-gabi, baka mapagkamalan ka’t humandusay d’yan sa tabi,” which perfectly fits what happened in the case of Kian Delos Reyes.
Cabangon also said that Filipino people should more vigilant nowadays especially in these violent times.
“We are now living in a very violent time. There is no middle ground to speak of and fear is reigning in the minds of a lot of Filipinos. Everyone can be a target. But we have to fight the fear and music is the powerful instrument to open the hearts and minds of the people,” said by Cabangon quoted by Philstar.
The popular songwriter also encourages his co-artists to be united and let their voice be heard regarding the killings. He also said that they can express their message through including it in the message of their song.
