Government Forces Kill At Least 10 Maute Group Members Sneaking Into Marawi City

10 Maute Group Members Killed By Government Forces After Attempting To Enter Marawi City

The government forces were able to kill at least 10 members of the Maute Group sneaking into the beleaguered city of Marawi.

On early Monday (August 28, 2017), Western Mindanao Command commander Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez, Jr. reported that they have received an information from an anonymous source of the possible incursion of Maute Group.

The militaries were able to neutralize and intercept the members of the extremists from entering Marawi City through their patrolling units and maritime cops.

“The plan of the terrorists was earlier reported to us that is why it was easier for patrolling special forces riverine units and maritime policemen to detect and neutralize the movement,” said by Galvez quoted by GMA.

Galvez said that the Joint Task Force Lawa had three-hour firefight against the Maute reinforcement boarding on two motorized pump boats who attempted to escape the authorities around 2 am on Monday.

Around 5 pm, the government forces were able to recover five dead bodies of the extremists from a motorized pump boat together with an M16 rifle. The authorities were also able to neutralize the militants, but they failed to recover their bodies.

The general also said that one of the enemy’s pump boats sunk during their operation. He also said that the government troops were now searching for the missing remains of the Maute bandits.

He also warned the militants who wanted to escape or enter the besieged city that the militaries are ready to get them down.

The crisis in Marawi City is about more than 3 months now since it was started last May 23, 2017, when the government troops raided the hideout of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon in Marawi City, which prompted Maute Group to retaliate against militaries.
