Suspected Abu Sayyaf Group Members Attacks Basilan, Leaves 9 Dead, 10 Injured
Armed men suspected as Abu Sayyaf group members took the lives of nine people when they attacked a village in Maluso, Basilan.
On Monday (August 21, 2017), about 30 to 50 armed men attacked Barangay Tubigan in Maluso, Basilan around 5:30 am. The gunmen who attacked the village were suspected as members of the Abu Sayyaf group.
Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, ARMM regional police director said that the alleged Abu Sayyaf group members shot some residents, burned houses, and a daycare in the village.
“Nine killed, 10 wounded. Not yet confirmed kung ASG,” said by Sindac quoted by GMA.
Basilan provincial police director Superintendent Christopher Panapan has identified the names of the slain victims and casualties of the alleged extremist attack in the area.
The slain victims were identified as Marktan Jalad, Ajid Aminulla, Ryan Joplo, Baby Arakani, Andok Haikin Kato, Radzma Arakani, Radsma Hassan, Camina dela Cruz, and Reynaldo Esparcia.
The casualties were named as Tarhata Arakani, Solo Arakani, Abel Laping, Roderick Villarin, Grace Fernandez, Lokaya Arakani, Joey dela Cruz, Julhari Arajani, Mariam dela Cruz, and Jessie dela Cruz.
Pursuit operations have been already launched by joint police and military against the bandits who spread terrorism in Basilan.
