On May 23, 2017, Marawi City has been attacked by the ISIS-inspired Maute Terror Group who fought back the government forces, which severely affects its residents.

The extended gun battle between the government troops and the terrorist group has prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial throughout the entire region of Mindanao to handle the situation and prevent the extremists from escaping.

The government forces are now making efforts to end the crisis in the beleaguered city as the conflict zone was confined to two barangays and a half.
