President Duterte Supports Any Impeachment Moves To Set Philippine Government In Order, Palace Says

Malacañang Palace said that President Rodrigo Duterte is willing to support any impeachment moves to set the Philippine government in order.

On Monday (August 14, 2017), presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella revealed that Mr. Duterte is willing to back any possible impeachment moves to correct the government institutions in the country.

Abella also said that the president expresses his support on the planned impeachment raps against Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista as part of Duterte administration to eradicate corruption in the Philippines.

“And he’s been very clear about that. That is one of his campaign promises. And so, each and every act—each and every move that entails bringing about a correction in our—especially in our institutions is welcome and I’m sure he is supportive of. That is not in reference to any particular individual,” said by Abella quoted by GMA.

On Saturday (August 12, 2017), former Negros Oriental representative Jacinto Paras decided to file an impeachment complaint against the election chairman for accumulating the alleged ill-gotten wealth of Patricia Paz Bautista.

The presidential spokesman also declined to give comments regarding the prediction of chief presidential legal counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo that Bautista would eventually resign due to the controversies.

Meanwhile, President Duterte was slightly putting himself away from the issue considering that Bautista was appointed by former President Aquino.
