Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte dissolves the Negros Island Region.
NEGROS ISLAND REGION – The Executive Order that made Negros Island Region was dissolved by the current President of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
According to the news report of the Rappler, the Executive Order (EO) No. 38 which was signed by Duterte on Monday, August 7, repeals the EO No. 138 approved by previous President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino which marked the creation of the NIR.
However, the new executive order returns the Negros Occidental to Western Visayas (Region VI) and Negros Oriental to Central Visayas (Region VII).
Even the regional offices of the NIR are now exterminated to which the personnel would either return to their previous assignment or be reassigned to other offices.
It is because there is not enough funding for the present administration has other priorities.
The document signed says, “The establishment of regional offices (ROs) of departments and agencies in the NIR requires substantial appropriation to be fully operational, thus competing with government priority programs and projects for funding.”
Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said, “When we came in, I was confronted with a P19-billion request by various agencies for that new region. I said, that’s not affordable, we have other priorities.”
