Mindanao Is Now Under Threat After Duterte Warned Of 3 New Terror Attacks
Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said that President Rodrigo Duterte called a meeting to inform the senate of 3 new terror attacks in Mindanao.
On Tuesday (August 01, 2017), President Duterte called a meeting in Malacañang Palace to inform the senate that the new plans of terrorists are discovered. He revealed that about 3 areas in Mindanao are under threat.
On Wednesday (August 02, 2017), Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed that Mindanao is under a new threat after President Duterte informed them that at least 3 areas in the region planned to attack by the terrorists.
“Meron discovered new plans of terrorists in other areas in Mindanao. He wants us posted on the development. Ang intindi ko around three areas are under threat,” said by Sotto quoted by Inquirer.
The lawmaker has declined to provide more details and information regarding the threat. He also refused to identify the areas in Mindanao and said that it is better if Mr. Duterte will be the one to reveal it.
Sotto said that the president did not yet ask any assistance from the Congress. He also said that Mr. Duterte expressed that he wants an additional 20, 000 personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
However, the entire Mindanao region was still under Martial Law after the Congress has granted the request of President Duterte to extend the ruling in the South to prevent the militants from escaping and to totally resolve the crisis in Marawi City.
Martial law has been declared last May 23, 2017, after the Maute Terror Group attacked Marawi City and fought back the government forces, which severely affects its residents.
Currently, the president and the government troops were doing their best to resolve and put an end to the crisis in Marawi.
