Duterte Warns Poor Group Kadamay Over Using Poverty To Force Gov’t Change

President Duterte, Urban Group Kadamay Clash Over Housing Projects For Poor

President Rodrigo Duterte has warned the poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) against using poverty to change the government by force.

Previously, Kadamay and other poor groups have rushed to the government housing projects in Pandi Town, Bulacan. Informal settlers forcibly take over the houses in the area, which was supposed to be given for the family of soldiers, firemen, and policemen.

On Tuesday (July 25, 2017), Mr. Duterte warned the urban poor group on their actions of using poverty to change the government. He also told the group not to repeat what they did in Bulacan last March 2017.

“Don’t repeat what you did in Bulacan. I am warning you … If you again force your way into government houses, my order is for government forces to drive you away. Either they will strike you with clubs, or if you resist, I will have them shoot you down,” said by Duterte quoted by Inquirer.

Mr. Duterte has encouraged the beneficiaries of the houses in Bulacan to drop their claims and he promised to build better homes for them. He also said that he will enforce laws against anarchy and to those who will create chaos.

Kadamay national chair Gloria Arellano said that there are over 100, 000 homes remain unused according to the date they have gathered. She also said that their campaign will continue to fight for their rights.
