The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has detected a tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) that can intensify Habagat.

The Philippines can usually experience about 20 tropical cyclones, which 10 out of these weather disturbance can turn into a typhoon. Five out of these 20 typhoons could have a devastating effect on the country.

A tropical cyclone is a rapidly rotating storm system, which was usually characterized by a low-pressure center. It brings strong winds, thunderstorms, and produces heavy rains. Some of these cyclones turn into a hurricane depends on its strength and location.

Recently, Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), GMA News’ resident meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz said that a weather disturbance was located outside PAR in the far west of Luzon. The tropical depression could possibly strengthen the Southwest Monsoon or so-called Habagat.

Cruz also explained that the weather condition has no serious effect to the Philippines, but it will intensify the impending southwest Monsoon. “It has no direct effect on the country but it will enhance the prevailing Habagat,” said by Cruz quoted by GMA.
