Fidget Spinners Hazardous Toys?
The fidget spinners have been dubbed as one of the most popular toys worldwide, but it was also among the list of hazardous toys for kids.
Fidget spinner is a three-bladed toy, which was made up of plastic, brass, copper, stainless steel, and other materials. The toy was reportedly created to help people who have focusing problems and to relieve stress.
These metal spinners have been already banned in different schools worldwide for it causes distraction inside the classrooms. Aside, from distractions, the toy can also cause danger to the kids according to some reports.
Boston-based World Against Toys Causing Harm (W.A.T.C.H) said that the small pieces of this toy can cause a choking hazard. Children in Texas and Oregon have been brought to hospitals after choking small pieces of fidget spinner, wherein one patient was required to undergo a surgery.
Last week, German customs have destroyed over 39 tons of fidget spinners over safety concern. “Do not be lulled into a false sense of security that a toy is safe simply because it is popular,” said by organization President Joan Siff.
Meanwhile, the group has also warned regarding the fire dangers posed by lithium batteries in hoverboards. The plastic weapons based on superhero movies could possibly cause injuries for non-motorized scooters.
Joan Lawrence, vice president of safety standards at The Toy Association, said that W.A.T.C.H doesn’t tend to scare parents, but they want to warn the parents of the possible risks posed by the toys. She also said that toy safety is highly regulated under federal law.
Lawrence also explained that base on federal regulatory definitions hoverboards and non-motorized scooters are not considered as toys. She was also known as the “toy safety mom.”
