Philippine Coast Guard Apprehends 5 Suspicious Men In Cagayan

5 suspicious men were apprehended by the members of the Philippine Coast Guard Northern Mindanao at a port in Cagayan De Oro.

On Monday night (June 19, 2017), the Philippine Coast Guard of Northern Mindanao has intercepted 5 persons of interest at the Macabalan Pier in Cagayan De Oro. The men appeared so nervous upon approaching the X-ray machine and presented fake IDs, according to the port authorities.

PCG district commander Col. Leovigildo Panopio said the 5 men were claiming to Islam missionaries heading to Manila. The men became more suspicious when they failed to recite the basic teachings of their religion.

The men admitted that their IDs were fabricated and insisting that they have already visited numerous areas in Mindanao teaching Islam.

The authorities said that the 5 persons of interest are in their 20’s and appeared to be healthy without any injury. They also said that they didn’t find any illegal items from the suspicious men.

Panopio said that the suspicious men will not be dismissed yet although they were not included in the arrest order No. 1 issued by Secretary Delfin Lorenzana. He also said that they will conduct further investigation if the men could be sympathizers of Maute Terror Group.

The suspicious men were currently detained at the PCG Northern Mindanao Headquarters while the authorities were scrutinizing their identities. Their cellular phones were temporarily confiscated for investigation.

As of now, the 5 men are currently facing charges such as the falsification of documents upon presenting their fake IDs to the authorities.
