Qatar Rejects, Won’t Surrender In Gulf Neighbors Over Escalating Tension

Qatar Won’t Surrender In Gulf Neighbors

Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has rejected any foreign policy and defies its Gulf neighbors over rising tension.

On Thursday (June 08, 2017), Al-Thani was calling for a change in Qatari policy from Saudi Arabia and other allies who cut the relations with Doha. He also called it unacceptable, during his interview with AFP.

The foreign minister of the beleaguered country has also rejected the military solution to resolve the crisis. He also said that Qatar could survive despite the measures taken against it and they won’t surrender the independence of their foreign policy.

Previously, countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates cut their ties with Qatar over its alleged support to the extremist groups. Four countries also released a list of individuals and entities they said had terrorist links to Qatar.

The list issued by the group shows the announcement of Qatar in fighting terrorism, but there are some lines that the beleaguered nation was supporting and hosting different terrorist organizations.

The previous US Department State of the report says that at least 2 names have been already designated internationally as a terrorist financier and against who Qatar took action.

Qatar has also declined the accusations and insisted their willingness to join discussions that will resolve the crisis.

Earlier, Al Jazeera’s broadcaster said that they were currently under a cyber-attack on all systems, websites, and social media platforms. Saudi Arabia and UAE banned Al-Jazeera from the airwaves and closed the channel’s offices.

The current crisis in Qatar was an extension of 2014 dispute, according to analysts. The dispute started when Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE recalled their ambassadors from Doha over their support for Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Also on Thursday, Bahrain expressed their sympathy for Qatar over facing penalties, which is punishable by jail. The announcement from Bahrain came after UAE first released the same statement.
