DTI Order Recalls On Mitsubishi Montero Sports Units
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Adjudication Division has ordered the recall of Mitsubishi Montero Sports units.
Previously, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines receives numerous complaints from the clients about the Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA) incident of the Montero Sports. The units released by the car company from 2010 to 2015 has automatic transmission.
On Wednesday (June 07, 2017), the Department of Trade and Industry Adjudication Division has ordered Mitsubishi Philippines Corporation to cease and desist from marketing and selling the Montero Sports units of 2010 to 2015, which contains an automatic transmission.
On December 2015, over 24 victims of Montero Sports’ SUA filed complaints on DTI. One of the victims also explained how he got into a tragic accident over SUA incident and the other victims also give the same statement.
After 2 years, the adjudication division has released their decision Mitsubishi PH to recall the 2010 to 2015 units of their Montero Sports. It also said that the accidents were not caused by the SUA, instead, it was caused by alleged defective pedal displacement.
“The subject Mitsubishi Montero – Automatic Transmission (2010-2015 models) vehicles are found to be defective to its pedal placement design, the same may validly be viewed as unsafe or dangerous,” wrote on the result of DTI’s investigation.
DTI ordered Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation to publicize the product recall order within 20 days. The vehicle company was also urged to recall the units of 24 complainants and to give them a refund. Montero Sports also need to refund the affected unit depending on its appraised value.
DTI also said that the decision was not yet final and executory after Mitsubishi PH filed a motion for reconsideration. The final decision will come after they receive the response from DTI Fair Trade and Enforcement Bureau.
