Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) superstar Paul “Bong” Alvarez has been arrested anew, but this time due to illegal drug use.
According to the statement released by the District Special Operations Unit, the ex-PBA cager who’s popularly known as “Mr. Excitement,” was nabbed on Saturday night, June 3, 2017.
He was allegedly caught in the act of using suspected “shabu” while in a “pot session” at Friend Estima Barber Shop in Anonas Extension cor. V. Luna Street in Brgy. Sikatuna Village in Quezon City.
Based on a report of Rappler, two other males identified as Ray Allan Cruz and Mohammad Dana were also busted in the said operation.
The authorities were initially aimed at arresting Alvarez for “slight physical injuries” which was issued by Hon. Judge Don Ace Mariano Alagar of Municipal Trial Court Branch 42, however, he was caught in the act by the police using methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
It was in April this year when the former 16-year PBA veteran was arrested in Baguio City for reportedly injuring his live-in partner.
In 2007, he made national headlines when he was involved in a domestic argument with his estranged wife, Almira Muhlach.
Bong Alvarez was also involved in a series of controversy that year. He was arrested for beating a taxi driver and was accused of elbowing broadcast journalist Gretchen Malalad in the face.
Dubbed as the “Mr. Excitement” for his high-flying dunks, he played for different teams in the PBA such as Alaska Milk, Sta. Lucia, San Miguel and Ginebra.
