Imee Marcos Faces Subpoena, 3 Ilocos Officials To Be Jailed

Maria Imelda Josefa “Imee” Romualdez Marcos faces subpoena after her 3 consecutive absences on court hearings without informing.

On Monday (May 29, 2017), the House committee on good government and public accountability has ordered to release contempt on 3 officials in Ilocos Norte over their alleged involvement on the anomalous usage of tobacco excise tax.

Provincial Treasurer Josephine Calajate together with Encarnacion Gaor and Genedine Jambaro are the 3 officials in Ilocos Norte covered by the order.

Subpoena

House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas has also issued a motion to cite in contempt the 3 officials after they have allegedly foist questions about the purchase of Ilocos Norte’s minicab last 2011 using P66.4 million fund from tobacco excise tax.

Fariñas also said that the fund is prohibited to be used for other purposes except only for improving the tobacco industry.

Calajate, Gair, and Jambaro will be detained in the holding area of House of Representatives until the issue is resolved.

Meanwhile, the committee has also approved the motion to apply subpoena in the investigation of Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos after her 3 consecutive absences on court hearings.
