Impeachment Complaints Against President Duterte Dismissed By House Panel

The 2 impeachment complaints against President Rodrigo Duterte has been dismissed by the House of Representatives due to substance insufficiency.

Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano’s impeachment complaint filed against Duterte has been dismissed the House panel on the first hearing conducted by the Justice Committee. The result of the hearing was caused by lack of substance.

The complaint was filed for the alleged Davao Death Squad (DDS), Extrajudicial Killing (EJK), and inaction to retain our sovereign rights on the West Philippines Sea, Benham Rise, and Scarborough Shoal over China’s claim.

Impeachment Complaints

The justice committee was assigned to find out if there is any substance on the impeachment complaint filed by Alejano. The committee found that the complaint has sufficient I form, but insufficient in substance after holding an executive session.

The news reports, statements, and testimonies of the witnesses becomes the basis of Majority Leader Rudy Fariñas to said that the impeachment complaint has insufficient substance and Alejano has no personal knowledge regarding the issue.

Fariñas also explained that Alejano has no personal knowledge on accusing the president that the over 8, 000 drug suspects died due to alleged EJK were killed by DDS.

Impeachment Complaints

“Clearly, it’s not in his personal knowledge. That is the defect here… You are introducing statements under oath, these are not your own. Lalabas hearsay po ito,” said by Fariñas quoted by Inquirer.

The Magdalo Representative insisted that he had personal knowledge regarding the issue. He said that his allegations to Mr. Duterte were based on authentic records and reiterated that he will present it at the right time.

Leyte Rep. Vicente “Ching” Veloso said that the impeachment complaint against the president filed by Alejano should be approved for the compliance of form sufficiency and should not be immediately dismissed due to substance insufficiency.

However, Committee chairperson Umali said that he want another discussion regarding the case in an executive session so they will have a second chance roto look into ambiguity on rules.
