LOOK: Aftermath of Magnitude 7.2 Earthquake that Hit Sarangani, Davao Occidental

A destructive Magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Saturday, April 29, 2017, exactly 4:23 a.m.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has announced that the Magnitude 7.2 earthquake which struck off Sarangani, Davao Occidental has a depth of 57 kilometers and is tectonic in origin.

Structural damages have been reported following the Magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

Aftershocks were also registered and the strongest among is with a magnitude of 4.1 was even listed 4:54 a.m. with the epicenter plotted 64 km away southwest of Sarangani along 27 kilometers depth and PHIVOLCS said that they were expecting more after that.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 7 earthquake has “damage negligible in buildings of good design and construction; slight to moderate in well-built ordinary structures; considerable damage in poorly built or badly designed structures; some chimneys broken.”
