As being reported by the Manila Bulletin, it was confirmed on Friday that the California Department of Motor Vehicles has permitted the company to test their self-driving cars in public roads of the state which covers three 2015 Lexus RX 450H Hybrid SUV’s as well as 6 individual drivers.
“Apple is investing heavily in machine learning and autonomous systems. There are many potential applications for these technologies, including the future of transportation,” the company said.
This statement was released after Steve Kenner, the Apple’s director of product integrity notify through a letter the regulators of the company’s interest.
Apple will contend superiority against other 29 car companies in a self-driving car test. Some of the major companies that were granted permits are Ford, General Motors, BMW, Volkswagen, Tesla and Google, its biggest opponent in the field of technology.
And Neil Cybart, an analyst even added that apple is “working on a transportation platform.”
These companies are also permitted to test their self-driving cars.
It has been mentioned in the report of the The New York Times that the Apple’s project in auto making is entitle the Project Titan. However, going back to the report of the Manila Bulletin, the Apple company never confirmed the existence of this project.
Also, there were speculations that Apple is acquiring Tesla with its $246 billion in cash yet neither of the two companies gave a positive response regarding this matter.
