BREAKING NEWS: Abu Sayyaf Leader Abu Rami Killed in Bohol

Abu Sayyaf leader Muamar Askali alias Abu Rami was killed in a gunfight against the government troops in Inabanga, Bohol on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

The death of the leader of the terrorist group was confirmed by Senior Supt. Jonathan Cabal, head of the Central Visayas police office’s intelligence division.

However, no further details have been divulged regarding the Abu Sayyaf leader’s death.

On Tuesday, Abu Rami’s group had an encounter with the Philippine security forces in Inabanga. The town is far from the jungle bases of the terrorist group in Mindanao.

According to the report of ABS-CBN News, at least 3 soldiers including 1 policeman died in the encounter. On the other hand, 6 Abu Sayyaf were killed in the said clash.

302nd Brigade spokesperson Capt. Jojo Mascariñas identified the fallen government troops as 2nd Lieutenant Espelito Saldua, Jr., Corporal Meljun Cajaban, Sergeant John Dexter Duero, and PO2 Rey Anthony Nazareno.

Meanwhile, Malacañang gave an assurance to the public that the situation has been contained.

“The public should have no cause for alarm as the situation is contained and our security forces are in control. The government is exerting all efforts to maintain peace and order,” Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said.

The speaker also paid tribute to the fallen government troops who were killed in the clash in Bohol.

“One officer, two soldiers, and a policeman paid the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of their duty to serve and protect our people. They are true heroes,” he said. “We salute their gallantry as we also assure their families that they will be provided all the necessary assistance from the government.”
