Filipino figure skater Michael Christian Martinez has entered the finals of 2017 World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki, Finland.
On Friday, March 31, 2016 (Philippine Time), the lone representative of the country in the world-renowned figure skating even has secured a spot in the finale of the competition after scoring 69.74.
According to Philstar.com, the 20-year-old skater has obtained the 24th place in the Short program of the competition.

Michael Christian Martinez is vying for a spot in the 2018 Winter Olympics which is scheduled to take place this coming February 9 to 25, 2018 in Daegwallyeong-myeon, South Korea. The most awaited winter Olympics will be joined by more than 70 countries.
Michael Christian Martinez came to limelight as the country’s lone representative in figure skating.
He made a name for himself after winning 2015 Asian Figure Skating Trophy champion. He also won two-time Triglav Trophy champion and has won one ISU Challenger Series silver medal at the 2014 Warsaw Cup.
He made history as the first skater from Southeast Asia and from a tropical country to qualify for the Olympics and the only athlete to represent the Philippines at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
With the prominence he brought to the country he was granted with a scholarship and cash prize.
