VIP Treatment For Cebu Road Rage Suspect Denies By PNP Chief Dela Rosa
On Tuesday (March 21, 2017), PNP Chief Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa denies VIP treatment to the Cebu road rage suspect David Lim Jr.
The road rage suspect David Lim Jr. was voluntarily surrendered to Cebu police early on Tuesday morning, as he was accompanied by his mother and relatives. He was the gunman behind shooting Ephraim Nuñal in a traffic altercation.
Christopher Go, the top aide of President Rodrigo Duterte helped Lim’s mother to peacefully surrender her son to the authorities. Lim was turned over to the custody of the Central Visayas Police.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dela Rosa denied the allegations that Lim was given a special treatment inside the police custody because David Lim Jr. is the nephew of Peter Lim, which was tagged by President Duterte as a drug lord.
Peter denied the allegations linking him to illegal drug activities, during his meeting with the president in the Palace.
Dela Rosa told the reporters at Camp Crame that there was no VIP treatment happened during the negotiation of Lim’s arrest. He said that it was normal for the suspect’s family to ensure the safety of Lim.
“I don’t think there was special treatment. It’s just normal sa isang mother na gusto niyang mag-surrender ang anak niya peacefully, na hindi ma-harm, na humanap ng linya na makausap kung pwedeng i-voluntary surrender iyung anak nila. [It’s] normal,” said by Dela Rosa quoted by ABS-CBN.
The statement of the PNP chief was confirmed by the additional statement of PNP-Central Visayas director Chief Supt. Noli Taliño. Lim was currently detained in the office of Taliño,
The road rage suspect was spotted in an air-conditioned room of the Regional Intelligence Division. A few moments later, the fingerprints and mugshot of Lim were taken by the authorities.
Lim was defended by his lawyer Orlando Salatandre who explained that Lim was only defending himself that’s why he shot the 33-year-old nurse during a road rage in Cebu City on Sunday (March 19, 2017).
