Commission On Appointments Rejects Yasay’s Appeal

Perfecto Yasay’s Appeal Rejected By The Commission On Appointments

Commission on Appointments rejects the ad interim appointment of Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay on Wednesday (March 08, 2017).

Lawmakers rejected the appointment of Yasay from the Commission on Appointment, which means that President Rodrigo Duterte would appoint a new chief executive for the Department of Foreign Affairs. Yasay was at the forefront of the president’s shift to China.

Earlier, Yasay apologized to the lawmakers for misleading them on questions over his real citizenship, as he appealed for the assurance of his appointment to the Cabinet of President Duterte. He also confirmed that he did not validly acquire Us citizenship, so he remains as a Filipino citizen.

Appointments

President Duterte was building a closer relationship with China and distancing the Philippines away from its longtime ally and former colonial ruler ‘United States’. Last week, Mr.Duterte reassured Beijing by saying they only misunderstood the statement of Yasay that Southeast Asian nations were concern over China’s move towards the disputed water in the South China Sea.

Last year, the president set aside the victory of the Philippines regarding the ruling of the International Arbitration court that China has no enough evidence to prove their territorial claims and declared that Scarborough Shoal is a common fishing ground.
