4 Barangays In Makati City Set For Meetings As Preparation For The ‘Big One’ Earthquake
4 barangays located under the West Valley Fault was set for meetings in preparation for the incoming magnitude 7.2 ‘Big One’ earthquake.
The resident and officials of the 4 barangays along the West Valley Fault were urged by the government of Marikina City to attend the meeting in preparation for the ‘big one’ quake. Comembo was scheduled on March 8, Rizal on March 15, Pembo on March 22, and East Rembo on March 29, 2017.
152 areas in the 4 barangays along the West Valley Fault will be marked by “mohon” (concrete landmarks) and markers, which will be discussed during the meetings. The markers will be installed after the meetings.
Comprehensive Land Use Plan 2013-2023 and its corresponding zoning ordinances will delineate 5 meters on both sides of the fault as open space for safety precautions. This will serve as awareness for everyone.
“For residents and stakeholders to better appreciate the significance of the markers, they need to be fully aware of the hazards they face in the event of a major earthquake,” said by Mayor Abby Binay quoted by Inquirer.
The Metro Manila Earthquake Impact Reduction Study in 2004 shows that the big one earthquake could possibly injure 84, 822 people and could kill up to 21, 505 people. The magnitude 7.2 quake will affect more than a million people in Makati City alone.
The disastrous earthquake could severely damage 9, 092 building and establishments, partially damage 16, 694 structures, and can burn 4, 983 structure.
P625 million was given to the Makati City disaster risk reduction and management fund and 30 percent of it or P187.5 million was allocated for Quick Response Fund for immediate assistance for the quake victims?
