Priest, Supporters Prayed Over Senator De Lima For Safety And Protection Before Arrest
A video of a priest and some supporters of Senator Leila De Lima praying over her before arrest went viral after it was posted in the social media.
Senator De Lima was arrested by the authorities last Friday (February 24, 2017) over drug-related charges. The senator was allegedly involved in the illegal drug proliferation at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) a few years ago, while she was still the justice secretary.
Several NBP inmates have testified and confirmed the allegations against De Lima. Inmates at the national penitentiary confessed that De Lima was coddling drug lords, protecting drug suspects, and involved in illegal drug activities.
Earlier, the senator said that it is an honor for her to be jailed while reiterating her innocence on the accusations against her. She also said that her critics have no enough evidence to prove their allegations and stated that she’s just doing her job.
Previously, A Catholic human rights defender was also arrested for alleged profiting from proliferations of illegal drugs inside the national penitentiary during the term of De Lima as justice secretary at the Department of justice (DOJ).
The video of Senator De Lima is now making rounds in the social media. The viral video shows that a priest together with some supporters was praying for De Lima’s safety and protection before she was arrested.
De Lima was condemning Duterte’s anti-illegal drug campaign amid Extrajudicial Killings (EJK), which killed over 7, 000 suspected criminals in the country since Duterte took his office. Both De Lima and Catholic Church were against this incident because it is inhumane for them.
The video was posted by Filipino Vines on Facebook. The viral video garnered 223k views, 8.8k reactions, 630 shares, and 708 comments as of this post.
