P500k worth of contraband was seized by the agents of PDEA-NIR from a former professor in Bacolod.

BACOLOD, Philippines – Former university professor nabbed in a buy-bust operation at the South Ceres Terminal at Lopez Jaena Street on Wednesday.

The apprehension was confirmed by Atty. Roselyn Borja, the head of the Philippine Drug enforcement agency (PDEA).

Borja identified the suspect as 55-years-old businessman Edgardo Simons. He is a former professor at a known University in Bacolod City.

According to a report of ABS-CBN news, Simons is already a part of the drug watch list of PDEA-NIR.

He was placed under surveillance by PDEA for several months. The operatives then arrested Simons in a buy-bust operation at the South the Terminal in Bacolod City.

More than 10 kilograms of suspected dried Marijuana leaves with an estimated value of P500,000 were seized by the agents of PDEA-NIR from Simons.

Atty. Borja told the reporters that the suspects placed the marijuana in different containers such as garbage bags, plastic jar, and plastic bags and were kept in a big bag.

Borja revealed to the media that the former professor transported the illegal substance, that came from Luzon area, by bus.

According to the report, the suspect was supposed to distribute the contraband in Negros.

Marijuana is an illegal substance in the Philippines, the Malacañang remains steadfast in implementing the law about it.

Marijuana remains a prohibited substance under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
