First ever self-driving hover-taxi has become a reality and is set to launch in Dubai by July, Its transportation authority in Dubai announced on Monday.

Dubai aims to launch the flying car that was created by Chinese drone manufacturer Ehang.

According to the report of Arab news, Mattar Al Tayer, the Director general of Roads and transport authority of Dubai, said that the Autonomous Aerial Vehicle (AAV) that was displayed at the World summit on the City government is not only a model but actually flown in the skies of Dubai.

We have already experimented the vehicle in a flight in Dubai sky, The RTA is making every effort to start the operation of the AAV in July 2017,” the director and the chairman of the RTA said.

Reports said that the AAV is capable of carrying a human. The flying hover-taxi can also travel on a programmed course at 100 kilometers an hour (60mph) at an altitude of 300 meters (1, 000 feet).

The driverless flying car can be recharged in two hours and can make trips of up to 30 minutes.

Mr. AL Tayer explained that the vehicle is a self-driving transport that aimed at transforming 25 percent of total trips in Dubai into self-driving trips using various modes of transport by 2030.

The AAV is fitted the with numerous basic system in all operation at the same time. The Director general of Roads and transport authority of Dubai explained this by saying, “in case of any malfunctioning, the standby system would be capable of controlling and safety steering the AAV to the programmed landing point.”

The one-man electric vehicle is designed to operate under all climatic conditions. It has highly accurate sensors and capable of resisting an extreme temperature.

Its transport authority shared that the passenger can operate the vehicle by simply needs to select a destination programmed in the flying vehicle and land to the selected spots. A ground-based center will monitor and control the entire operation.

Mr. Al Tayer said that the successful operation of the AAV is the chance to beat the traffic jams. It is considered as a big step towards an innovative and smart solution for the unending problem of traffic congestion around the world.

It is the only observable e imaginative science fiction that many have dreamed about. And now it looks set to become a reality.
