Beauty Doctor Joel Mendez’s House Raided By Metro Manila Police Over Estafa Charges
The house of beauty doctor Joel Mendez has been raided by the Metro Manila police for breaking Social Security System (SSS) law.
On Thursday (February 02, 2017), authorities raid the home of Mendez over his SSS case. Mendez was arrested after he was sentenced for violating SSS law, according to a report. The doctor violated the Section 22-A (Remittance of Contributions of Self‐employed Members) of the Republic Act 8282 or the SSS Law.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) policemen together with some SSS personnel conduct a raid on Mendez’s house on Pugo Street in Barangay Talipapa, Quezon City. The authorities did not find Mendez at his house. The beauty doctor has been accused of not remitting the SSS contributions of his 40 employees.
The case against Mendez was filed in court last 2013, according to the officer-in-charge of NCR-North legal department of SSS, Lawyer Ricardo Gatdula. The celebrity doctor is now facing estafa charges.
Mendez was sentenced to be penalized in jail for a minimum of six years and one day and a maximum of seven years. The doctor was required to pay a P15, 000 fine. The decision came from the Quezon City – Regional Trial Court (QC-RTC).
“On the civil aspect, accused is adjudged to pay SSS the amount of P1,865,667.50 with an interest of 3 percent per month from July 2013 until full payment,” said by QC-RTC quoted by GMA.
