Rapid Increase Of E-Waste Is Now The Primary Concern Of Asia

Due to the modernization and demand of high-technology digital gadgets and mobile phones, the Asia’s latest concern was the increasing amount of E-waste.

The amount electronic waste or E-waste continues to increase due to the technology innovation and due to the demand of modern and advanced mobile phones. Asian nations were urged by United Nations (UN) to improve its disposal methods.

The rise of e-waste was due to the discarded or damaged electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, TV, gaming devices, and other high-tech gadgets.  The e-waste of Japan rapidly increased by 63 percent in 5 years, according to the study of UN.

E-Waste

While China’s e-waste had increased more than doubled its own generation from 2010 to 2015. China was reportedly generating an average of 21.7 kg (47.8 lb) of e-waste per person as of 2015.

Over 19 kg of e-waste in 2015, were generated by each person in Taiwan and Singapore. Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia are the lowest generator of e-waste, with the only 1kg per person.

Exposure on e-waste can cause serious health diseases and has a negative impact on the environment. Improper dumping of e-waste can also increase people’s exposure to toxic chemicals contained by e-waste.

E-Waste

Project 1 phone is a campaign of Globe Telecom, which will collect the old and unused devices of the Filipinos for recycling and proper disposal. Some usable parts of the device will be sold in order to raise funds for building schools.

TES-AMM, a leading electronics waste recycler will collect the old devices and will segregate the usable parts from non-usable. The non-usable parts will properly dispose the items.
