President Duterte Might Not Finish His Six-Year Term As Philippine President
President Rodrigo Duterte doubts if he can finish his six-year term when the realization comes upon reaching his six months in the presidency.
The president goes to Cambodia for his 2-day state visit and had his speech in front of thousands of cheering Filipinos at Phnom Penh. Duterte starts to doubt if he can finish his term in 2022 when he will turn 77-year-old and becomes the oldest President of the Philippines.
Mr. Duterte realized that at his age he did not need the presidency anymore but he has no regret for entering the presidency. Rodrigo comes up with these realizations 6 months after he took the presidency last June 30, 2016.
“I realize now—I do not need it at this time of my life. But I tell you, I take pleasure at the end of the day, that’s the only consolation, I have a job, I am doing something right,” said by Duterte quoted by Inquirer.
Duterte doesn’t fear to face any charges that will file against him for the massive Extrajudicial Killings (EJK) linked to his anti-illegal drug campaign in the country, which took the lives of nearly 6, 000 thousand Filipinos.
The authority explained that 2, 028 drug suspects were killed during anti-narcotic operations for fighting back the police officers, while the remaining cases were still under investigation. His war on drugs amid EJK incidents have been criticized by US President Barack Obama, UN, EU, and other human rights groups.
Rodrigo stressed that is suffering from several health problems such as, the issue with his spine, Buerger’s disease, which he acquired through heavy smoking, and migraine. He was advised by medical experts to undergo a surgical operation but his wife did not allow him for many spine surgeries went wrong in the U.S.
His several health issues and his old age were some of many factors triggers his doubt to finish his term as Philippine president.
