As the Ombudsman is continuing its investigation into the liability of former President Aquino on DAP and Mamasapano massacre, Morales declares him corrupt-free.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales said that the reputation of former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III was not tainted with any corruption.
During the Meet the Inquirer Forum on December 13, Tuesday, the head of the Office of the Ombudsman called Aquino corrupt-free even as the agency is still continuing its probe into the liability of the former chief executive on the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) and the Mamasapano massacre.
Morales was quoted saying: “You have to give it to him. He is corrupt-free”, adding that the platform of Aquino against corruption is a style of leadership by example.
According to Ombudsman Morales, Aquino’s leadership style of being corrupt-free is because he himself is not tainted with corruption.
But despite the praise, Morales admitted that there are “misfits” around Noynoy that might have done things leading to anomalies but the Ombudsman did not elaborate or name any of these individuals.
However, Ombudsman Morales assured the public that all the complaints against the former president remained active before the anti-graft office.
“There are pending cases against former President Aquino. I think they are still under investigation. We call it active”, she said.
Filed before the Office of the Ombudsman are some charges against former President Aquino to include reckless imprudence resulting in homicide over the anti-terrorism raid Oplan Exodus which claimed the lives of 44 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao province.
Also filed against him and his former Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad is technical malversation connected with the savings impounding mechanism Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), some practices which the Supreme Court had declared unconstitutional.
Morales was appointed by Aquino as Ombudsman in 2011 after she retired as justice of the Supreme Court.
Shock! No great revelation here. Any rational thinking human would know President Aquino was against corruption. Better yet, he did not have to kill citizens to lead the nation.
