Lawmakers Failed To Prove De Lima Coddled Drug Lords, Trillanes Says
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said that the congressmen have failed to prove that Senator Leila De Lima coddled drug lords.
The senator said that the congressmen should stand down and swallow their pride as he urges lawmakers should make De Lima Explain she should not be held in contempt for asking her former driver to skip a House inquiry.
He also cited the testimonies the confessed drug lord ‘Kerwin Espinosa’ and former driver/bodyguard ‘Ronnie Dayan’ on their alleged drug money transaction in behalf of De Lima. Trillanes explained that despite their strong testimonies against Senator De Lima, the lawmakers still failed to De Lima’s involvement on illegal drugs.
“They embarrassed Sen. De Lima. They made inmates and Dayan talk but Sen. De Lima is still standing. It’s time to accept the fact that they were not able to prove anything. So now, swallow your pride and stand down,” said by Trillanes quoted by Inquirer.
Dayan’s daughter also testified and said that De Lima told her in a text message that Dayan should skip the House inquiry because lawmakers will only scrutinize him. The wanted Dayan to testify in the investigation after NBP inmates linked him as the alleged bagman of De Lima.
Last week, Dayan was arrested in La Union, where he is hiding and testified that he received money from Kerwin Espinosa and gave it to De Lima. Dayan’s testimony somehow contradicts Espinosa’s statements.
Dayan said that Senator De Lima instructed him to get the money from Espinosa but Kerwin claims that he talked to Dayan who was introduced to him by Albuera, Leyte police chief Insp. Jovie Espenido.
Due to unmatched testimonies of Dayan and Espinosa, Senator Trillanes doubt and don’t believe the allegations against De Lima for receiving money from suspected drug lords because their testimonies diverged.
He also said that if De Lima was indeed coddled drug lords she would not fight President Duterte for she will be only buttered up to the president.
