Pacific Coast Of Central America Struck By 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake
On Thursday (November 24, 2016), a 7.2 magnitude earthquake strikes the Pacific Coast of Central America and could possibly trigger a devastating tsunami.
U.S monitoring agencies said that the quake at Central America could prompt destructive tsunami waves in the region as hurricane move into Costa Rica and Carribean coasts of Nicaragua. There was no damage at a nation level has reported yet, according to the Twitter post of emergency services in El Salvador.
The earthquake was initially reported has 7.2 magnitudes and it was very shallow at 10.3 km below the seabed, which would intensify its effect. U.S Geological Survey said that 149 km south-southwest of Puerto Triunfo in El Salvador is where the epicenter of the quake is located. The quake rattled the region on Thursday at 12:43 pm or Friday (2:43 am-PH time).
The quake shook El Salvador’s Pacific Coast resulting for the region to raise a tsunami alert. Along the coastal area of Central America, a possibility of 3-meter tsunami waves is estimated to hit the coast. A tsunami alert was also raised in Nicaragua, which was also close to the epicenter.
