2nd Day Of Bar Exams Marked By Human Rights Groups Protest On Marcos Burial At The “Libingan ng mga Bayani”
Human rights groups protest against Supreme Court (SC) decision on Marcos hero’s burial marked the second day of Bar exams on Sunday (November 13, 2016).
SC decision to allow the burial of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani received criticism and protest from several human rights groups who were against FM hero’s burial.
The National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL) calls to over 6, 000 Bar examinees to wear black shirts to indicate opposition on Marcos hero’s burial but most of the examinees wore their respective law school colors. The protest actions conducted by NUPL, Karapatan and Karma, and Samahan ng mga ex-detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto still proceeded.
The protest was composed of martial law victims and human rights lawyers. The protesters held their banners with the word’s “Respect and uphold the rule of law,” “Never forget” and “No hero’s burial for the dictator.”
