Brunei Supports PH War On Drugs
Brunei supports PH – Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah recently expressed his support for the war on drugs implemented by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, as said by Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr.
President Duterte arrived in Brunei last Sunday, October 16, for a state visit in the country wherein, according to Yasay, the two leaders will also discuss the war on illegal drugs during the bilateral talks in the country.
In a report by PhilStar, the Philippine President has been vocal about his ongoing war on illegal drugs and he is even hoping that neighboring countries would do the same thing, especially the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which he will chair in 2017.
According to Duterte, these illegal drugs are being transported in the borders, as he said, particularly in the territorial waters of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Being the upcoming chairman of the ASEAN next year, he is hoping for a “drug-free ASEAN” in the coming years.
The Philippines, under Duterte’s administration, is currently doing anti-drug operations which started when the President took office, as part of his promise to have a drug-free and a crime-free Philippines in three to six months.
Now, the Philippine National Police led by Chief Ronald Dela Rosa claimed that there are thousands who surrendered in the past months. But, another heating topic is the alleged extra-judicial kil1ings (EJK) that are being said to be done by vigilantes and the policemen themselves.
Meanwhile, during Duterte’s visit in Brunei, he also met more than 7,000 members of the Filipino community at the Bolkiah National Sports Complex last Sunday after arriving in the country.
A dinner was also joined by Duterte and his party including Yasay, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, Peace Process Adviser Jesus Dureza, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, and Press Secretary Martin Andanar.
