Bagyo Lawin Cannot Be Declared A Supertyphoon Yet – PAGASA

The state weather agency explained why it cannot declare Bagyo Lawin a Supertyphoon yet.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (PAGASA) explains why it has not escalated Bagyo Lawin into a Supertyphoon yet despite of its devastation to some of the places in the country.

Aldzar Aurelio, weather forecaster of PAGASA, explained that Bagyo Lawin has not yet reached the strength of 220 kilometers per hour that would qualify it into a supertyphoon.

Lawin, having the international name of Typhoon Haima, was believed to be a supertyphoon, just like Bagyo Yolanda, with international name Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the Visayas region last November 2013.
